Lanyards are crucial for freediving safety and required for depth training and competitions. Before 2001, athletes often used unreliable homemade versions. As their safety role became clear, lanyards were redesigned for better function and reliability.
The lessons we learn from freediving don’t always come from the darkest of depths or the longest of breaths. Sometimes, they come from a place even deeper.
Whether your freediving problem is mental or physical, it’s probably much more common than you think. You might not know this, but every freediver has encountered a roadblock if they’ve been freediving long enough - some people have them initially, and others have them somewhere else down the line (no matter how ‘naturally’ freediving came to them at the start).

The Hydro Dynamic pool competition is held in the suburbs of Vienna, central to many European countries. BSFZ Südstadt’s pool in Maria Enzersdorf allows nearly 50 athletes to compete in a shallow 31°C (87.8°F) pool for STA and a 50m pool with a constant depth of 2m for DNF, DYN, and DYNB. The world-record-status competition also serves as the Austrian Championship for DYN and DYNB.
