Lap 1/ Wave 1 - Beginner Freediving

Are you ready to take your first step into the freediving world with a first-level certification course?

Dive into freediving with the Lap/Wave 1 - Beginner Freediving course, the first-level certification course that allows you to:

  • Act as a qualified buddy for other certified freedivers
  • Join coaching/training sessions with freediving schools from any freediving agency
  • Dive in deep pools
  • Participate in the Lap/Wave 2 - Advanced Freediving course

Lap/Wave 1 Course Setup

This course is the first you will have on your recreational freediving journey. It teaches you the basics of freediving theory (can be taken online and from anywhere) in the Theory 1 course, theory and pool freediving in the Lap 1 course, and theory, pool, and depth freediving in the Wave 1 course.

Keep in mind that you can upgrade from Theory → Lap → Wave within the same level at different times.

For example, if you just want to complete Theory for now, you can have an online theory session with a Molchanovs instructor, then upgrade to Lap when you are able to access a pool with a Molchanovs instructor. Or if you only have access to a pool, you can first take the Lap course (includes theory), then upgrade later to the Wave course (with 3 depth sessions) when you are near open water with a Molchanovs instructor.

After successful completion of the Lap/Wave 1 course, you’ll be able to:

Theory

  • Understand the basic principles of freediving physiology and physics
  • Perform the correct freedive preparation, pre-dive breathing, and recovery breathing
  • Explain the differences between each freediving discipline and understanding different types of freediving equipment
  • Comfortably hold your breath for 1’30”

Lap (Theory + Pool)

  • Use proper dynamic technique to swim 30m (98ft) in the pool with fins (DYNB)
  • Understand how to swim a horizontal distance without fins (DNF)
  • Perform safety and rescue a freediver performing a breath-hold at the surface (STA) or diving horizontally in the pool (DYNB)
  • Participate in the Lap 2 - Advanced Freediving course

Wave (Theory + Pool + Depth)

  • Efficiently dive down into the water from the surface (‘duck dive’)
  • Comfortably dive 12 - 20m (39 - 66ft) deep with bifins (CWTB) and by pulling down and up the dive line (FIM)
  • Safety freedivers in open water from 6 - 10m (20-33ft) with CWTB Buddying
  • Rescue a blacked-out freediver at depth (CWTB Rescue)
  • Participate in the Lap/Wave 2 - Advanced Freediving course
